Streszczenie

Emocje towarzyszą człowiekowi od momentu, gdy rozeszły się ewolucyjne drogi rodzajów Pan i Homo. Właściwie były obecne już wcześniej. Są tak stare, że za ich odczuwanie odpowiadają najbardziej pierwotne z regionów dzisiejszej kory ludzkiego mózgu, odziedziczone po pierwszych grupach kręgowców. Czym jednak, tak dokładnie, są emocje? Czy wszyscy ludzie na całym świecie odczuwają je w taki sam sposób? Czy mają one coś wspólnego z procesami poznawczymi, takimi jak pamięć, uwaga i podejmowanie decyzji? Czy istnieje możliwość, że w przyszłości obdarzymy nimi maszyny wyposażone w sztuczną inteligencję? Odpowiedzi na te pytania od czasów epoki oświecenia zajmują naukowców z całego świata, chociaż dopiero stosunkowo niedawno zaczęto traktować emocje jako coś, co można fizycznie zbadać. Poniższe opracowanie jest próbą zebrania współczesnej wiedzy na temat emocji, a także na temat metod, które mogą pomóc w osiągnięciu równowagi emocjonalnej.
